We'll have to wait until later this year before Mercedes finally unveils its new baby sports car, the AMG GT; however, just to keep us salivating, the Stuttgart firm has today revealed images of the car's interior.
The new AMG GT indirectly replaces the SLS AMG and will go up against the likes of the Jaguar F-Type and Porsche 911 when sales begin later this year. Notably, Mercedes has dropped the name of its founder, Karl Benz, from the new car's name, with the official title of the model being the Mercedes-AMG GT.
So, what of the car's interior? Well, as you can see, it's a luxurious cabin, resplendent in red-'n'-black leather. It has also clearly been inspired by the SLS, with the old car's aviation-themed dash and round air vents remaining.
Mercedes claims that the shape of the centre console is reminiscent of a NACA air intake, continuing the car's aviation theme, while the control buttons for the AMG Drive Unit are arranged like the eight cylinders in a V8 engine layout.
The AMG GT also gets the new touchpad control infotainment interface as the one found in the new C-Class, which is mounted ahead of the metal gear selector.
Under the bonnet, the AMG GT will be fitted with a new 4.0-litre V8 twin-turbo engine which will replace the old 6.2-litre V8 found in the SLS. No performance figures have been released as yet, but we're expecting a power output of around 500bhp.
Mercedes CEO Tobias Moers said of the new car: "Following the global success of the SLS AMG, the new GT is the second sports car developed fully independently by Mercedes-AMG.
"An initial exclusive look at the design of the interior shows what is in store for our customers: a GT sports car in its purest form."
