Ever since Mercedes unveiled the new S-Class earlier this year, we've been itching to get our hands on the first pictures of the upcoming AMG version of Merc's luxo-barge. And we're happy to tell you that they're here.

This is the new Mercedes S63 AMG, which will be unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September and will go on sale in the UK later this year.

Like the outgoing S63, the new car comes with twin-turbo 5.5-litre V8 engine which churns out 577bhp and 664lb-ft of torque, all of which means that the S63 will hit 62mph in 4.4 seconds and carry on accelerating right up to an electronically-limited top speed of 155mph.

The 63 will be available in the UK in long wheelbase form, tipping the scales at 1,995kg -- around 100kg less than the outgoing model. This means that in addition to being able to beat an Aston Martin DB9 to 62mph, the S63 will return 28mpg combined and emit just 237g/km of CO2.

The power is sent to the rear wheels through AMG's seven-speed automatic gearbox which comes with a choice of three settings: Controlled Efficiency, Sport or Manual. The first of these settings uses start-stop to boost fuel efficiency, while the other two open special flaps in the AMG sports exhaust to provide a more, shall we say, fitting soundtrack.

The new S63 also gets the new S-Class's magnificent Magic Body Control system, which uses a camera in the windscreen to scan the road ahead, alter the settings of the air springs, and set the car up for comfort or sportiness accordingly.

On the outside, the S63 is differentiated from lesser models in the range by virtue of its 19-inch AMG alloy wheels, carbon-ceramic brakes, deep front bumper, chrome grille, black rear diffuser with chrome trim, twin exhausts and AMG badging.

Inside, there's acres of leather, an AMG sports steering wheel and a TFT infotainment screen which features an AMG instrument cluster. Oh, and like the rest of the S-Class range, there are more electronic toys than the average episode of The Gadget Show.

Prices are yet to be confirmed but we'd expect the S63 to cost from around £120,000 when it goes on sale in the autumn.
