Mercedes has released an official sketch of its new GLA, ahead of the car's debut at the Shanghai Motor Show this weekend.
The GLA is a new five-seater SUV designed to take on the likes of the BMW X1 and the Range Rover Evoque. Based on the same MFA architecture as the new A-Class, B-Class and CLA, the GLA is part of Mercedes' push to attract younger buyers to the brand.
As you can see, the GLA's front-end styling is characteristic of the direction Mercedes is taking with cars such as the A-Class and the CLA. The chrome grille features a huge Mercedes three-pointed star, and the creases in the bonnet give the GLA an aggressive look.
Mercedes has yet to release any concrete info on the new GLA, the engine line-up is likely to consist of two petrol engines -- a 1.6 and a 2.0-litre turbo -- and a brace of diesels, including a 1.8-litre unit and the 2.1-litre engine fitted to the CLA.
A hot GLA 45 AMG version is also reportedly in the pipeline and will be fitted with the turbocharged 2.0-litre engine fitted to the A45 AMG and the forthcoming CLA 45 AMG.
