Bill Gates, eat your heart out. Mercedes has been named the UK's top Consumer Superbrand for 2011, beating last year's winner Microsoft which has fallen to sixth place.

The annual Consumer Superbrand survey, now in its 12th year, surveys over 2,000 members of the public to analyse the country's most revered brands. This is the first time in five years that neither Google nor Microsoft has won the accolade.

The number two spot went to watch manufacturer Rolex, with the BBC taking third place. Coca Cola and Google place fourth and fifth, respectively, with Merc's rival luxury car brand BMW taking seventh place. Jaguar just squeezed into the top ten, coming tenth behind British Airways and Apple.

Wilfried Steffen, CEO of Merc UK was delighted with the result:

"Everybody in the company is absolutely committed to delivering exceptional levels of customer service, and this survey result shows that these efforts are paying off, because the British public voted for us."
