Nissan have announced a new low emissions petrol engine, which will be introduced to the Micra range.
The DIG-S engine - short for Direct Injection Gasoline-Supercharger - is a 3-cylinder, 1.2-litre engine which emits just 95g/km of CO2 when linked to Nissan's manual gearbox. Those emissions will see it exempt from annual road tax and London Congestion Charge, while producing 97bhp and a top speed of 112mph. The DIG-S engine with manual gearbox has a combined fuel economy figure of 68.9mpg.
Nissan attribute the car's impressive figures to new engine management systems with Start/Stop technology and energy regeneration, along with a 3-cylinder configuration that the company claims has resulted in significant reductions in friction loss and weight.
The DIG-S engine will receive its European debut at the Geneva Motor Show next month, with sales starting in the summer. Full model and specification details, along with pricing structure, will become available closer to launch.
