A London business woman has set a new British record after paying £233,000 for a registration plate at a DVLA auction.
The anonymous bidder paid that amount - which includes fees - for the registration KR15 HNA (Krishna), a record sum for a current style registration number. The previous record for a current style personalised registration was £100,000 paid for MR51 NGH (Mr Singh), a record which stood for over nine years.
The record was set during the DVLA’s three-day auction at the Casa Hotel in Chesterfield, Derbyshire, the second such event held by the organisation so far this year.
While the sum constitutes a record amount paid for a current style registration number, it pales in comparison to the £518,000 fetched by registration 25 O when it went under the hammer during DVLA Personalised Registrations’ 25th Anniversary Auction last November, and which holds the outright record for the UK’s most expensive personalised registration.
