Jamiroquai singer, rock star and self-confessed motoring fanatic, Jay Kay, has announced that he will be taking his very own Porsche 914-6 to this year’s Race Retro event at the end of February.

The Race Retro event takes place from Friday 24 February to Sunday 26 February at Stoneleigh Park, Coventry, and is a must for fans of classic cars and historic motorsport.

The Porsche 914-6 is just one of 37 cars in the Jamiroquai frontman’s collection of amazing classic vehicles. The Race Retro event will see the Porsche 914-6 reunited with one of its original drivers, rally legend Bjorn Waldegard. Bjorn drove the 914-6 in the 1971 Monte Carlo Rally, an event in which the Porsche was expected to perform extremely well in.

But the weather was to deal the Porsche team a cruel blow: it snowed terribly.

Two other Porsche drivers Ake Andersson and Gerard Larrousse were forced to retire with gearbox problems, but Bjorn soldiered on to finish third in terrible driving conditions.

Bjorn will be seeing if the car stands the test of time on the Live Rally Stage on Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 February, before Jay Kay himself gets behind the wheel.

Other attractions at the event will include a race helmet used by F1 great Ayrton Senna, which is undoubtedly the star automobilia lot at the Silverstone Auction's forthcoming Race Retro Sale to be held at the event.

Its rarity and collectable appeal is reflected in its estimate price of between £40,000 to £50,000. The helmet wears the colours of the Brazilian flag coupled with Nacional, Marlboro, Boss and Honda branding.

Race Retro is sponsored by Peter James Insurance, and advanced tickets start at £20 with children’s tickets at £5 for Friday. Child tickets for Saturday and Sunday are free, as well as car parking.

The show is open from 9.30am each day and closes at 5.30pm on Friday and Saturday and 4.30pm on Sunday. To book tickets and for the latest updates, visit raceretro.com
