An advert for the new Toyota GT86 has been banned by the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) over fears it "condoned dangerous driving".
The advert in question, known as 'The Real Deal' shows a CGI bloke driving around in a CGI Toyota GT86 at high speed -- all fairly standard stuff you'd have thought. Well, apparently not it seems; the ASA claims that Toyota has broken the Committee of Advertising Practice (CAP) code section 19.3:
"Marketing communications must not depict speed in a way that might encourage motorists to drive irresponsibly or to break the law."
Toyota, quite rightly, argued that the advert is clearly set in "an animated, artificial and fantasy environment," and that, therefore, the video did not attempt to emulate realistic driving conditions.
However, the ASA upheld the complaint, branding the advert "irresponsible".
