Porsche has completed the prototypes of the new 918 Spyder.
Porsche's new plug-in hybrid sports car will go into production in September 2013, with customers taking delivery of their vehicles before the end of that year.
The 918 Spyder is fitted with a mid-mounted 4.6-litre V8 engine and two electric motors which, when combined, produce more than 770bhp. This makes for a top speed of 201mph and a 0-62mph time of less than 3.0 seconds. The hybrid technology also means that the 918 Spyder is impressively economical, and will return up to 94mpg.
The two-seater body is made fom 100% CFRP (carbon fibre reinforced plastics) and the 918 Spyder also features rear wheel steering and double wishbone front suspension, so it should be as fun to drive as it is to look at.
As you can see, the 918 Spyder has a distinctive paint job. Porsche claims that the camouflage livery of the new car harks back to the historical Porsche 917 racing cars.
Wolfgang Hatz, Member of the Executive Board Research and Development at Porsche AG, said that "What we are doing with the 918 Spyder is redefining driving fun, efficiency and performance."
