Last month the organisers of FordFest asked the public to choose their favourite Ford from the long list of legendary Blue Oval products to have graced the silver screen. The votes are in.
The winner is the famous Mustang GT390 from Steve Mcqueen's ‘Bullitt’.
At the time of the film's release, the famous car chase scene - which involved the GT390 and a Dodge Charger - generated real excitement for cinema goers.
Leonard Maltin, the famous US film critic, has called it a "now-classic car chase, one of the screen's all-time best."
Emanuel Levy, another famous critic, described the car chase in 2003 as 'one of the most exciting car chases in film history, a sequence that revolutionized Hollywood's standards'.
Bruce Weber, photographer and filmmaker, wrote the following in his obituary for Peter Yates, the director behind the film, "Mr. Yates’ reputation probably rests most securely on Bullitt ... and indeed, on one particular scene, an extended car chase that instantly became a classic."
A worthy winner indeed.
