The Ford Mondeo, already a double winner at this year’s What Car? Awards in January, has scooped another award at the What Car? Green Awards.

The Ford Mondeo 1.6 litre TDCi model, with CO2 emissions of just 114g/km and an average fuel efficiency of 65.6mpg, was recognised as the UK’s greenest family car. The low emissions equate to free road tax in the first year and £30 a year thereafter.

Ford Britain’s managing director, Mark Ovenden, had this to say: "Thanks to impressive fuel economy, Ford has an outstanding low-carbon vehicle line-up which combines design style, technology and affordability. This Ford Mondeo's UK-built 1.6 diesel engine is an extraordinary combination of performance and low CO2 and is available across the range from Fiesta to Galaxy."

The model is priced from £19,895.
