Ford is set to release a hot version of its new Focus, the Focus ST.

As impressive as the Focus 1.0-litre EcoBoost is, we're glad to see that Ford hasn't completely jumped on the green bandwagon. The ST is fitted with an EcoBoost engine but, thankfully, it displaces 2,000cc and develops an impressive 247bhp. This means 0-62mph takes a brisk 6.5 seconds and flat out you'll be doing 154mph.

Ford's hot Focuses come in two different flavours -- the mildly hot ST and the scorching hot RS. The last fast Focus was an RS which developed 301bhp, and the new ST is the first of its kind since the Mk2 model came out in 2005. The good news is that the ST was a cracking car -- even Jeremy Clarkson loved it.

The new ST should also be relatively economical, delivering 39mpg on the combined cycle and emitting a reasonably low 169g/km of CO2.

The new car will be available as both a five-door hatchback and an estate and will be offered with three choices of trim: ST-1, ST-2 and ST-3. All models comes with 18-inch alloys, Recaro seats, air-con, keyless start, Bluetooth, DAB radio, USB connectivity and an alarm. ST-2 models also get partial leather trim, rain sensitive wipers, automatic headlights and ST floor mats. Top-of-the-range ST-3 models get full leather seats (heated in the front), bi-xenon headlights, LED daytime running lights, keyless entry and power fold mirrors.

The Focus ST is available to order now, with prices starting from £21,995 for the ST-1, £23,495 for the ST-2 and £25,495 for the ST-3.

The first customers will take delivery of their cars in September.
