This is the new Ford Mondeo Vignale, a new top-of-the-range Mondeo which will usher in a brand-new luxury sub-brand for the manufacturer when it goes on display at the Frankfurt Motor Show next week.
The new Vignale (pronounced vin-yar-lay) sub-brand is designed to combine a more upmarket, luxurious appearance both inside and out with an enhanced ownership experience which will see Vignale owners given access to unique dealers, a lifetime valeting service, access to lounge facilities at airports and an individual concierge service.
Due to go on sale as part of the new MkV Mondeo range in 2015, the Mondeo Vignale will be the first in a series of range-topping Vignale models which in time will include much of Ford's model range. An S-MAX Vignale is reportedly the next model on the cards.
So, let's take a look at what the Mondeo Vignale has to offer. On the outside, the car gets 20-inch Vignale alloy wheels, with Vignale badging, chrome door handles and mirror caps, a mesh grille, a new front bumper and dark brown paintwork as standard.
Open the door and you'll find quilted trim, lashings of leather and chrome, embossed scuff plates and luxury floor mats. Ford's SYNC infotainment system, which features phone connectivity and wi-fi, will also be included as standard.
Ford is introducing the Vignale in an attempt to steal sales away from more upmarket brands such as Audi and BMW by positioning its vehicles in a more premium sector. It's the first time Ford has made a concerted effort to pitch its products at a more aspirational market since the demise of the Ghia trim level some years ago.
"Vignale represents the highest expression of the Ford brand in Europe from both a product and from an ownership experience perspective," said Stephem Odell, Ford president of Europe, Middle East and Africa.
"The Ford Mondeo Vignale Concept showcases the features that customers tell us they want in terms of styling and quality, advanced technology and exclusivity."
