Chevrolet has confirmed the American pricing details for the new Corvette Stingray, giving an indication of how much the UK-spec car will cost when it goes on sale in Blighty.
The entry-level hard-top model will cost from $51,995 when it goes on sale in September (which translates to £33,527 in proper money), while the convertible will be priced from $56,995 (£36,750).
This means that the new, more advanced Corvette will cost roughly $2,000 more than its predecessor, the C6. And given that the C6 is currently on sale in the UK from just under £63,000, it seems likely that prices for the C7 will start from somewhere around the £65,000 mark.
Despite the huge difference between the UK and US pricing structures, the 'Vette should still be a force to be reckoned with in the value-for-money stakes when it makes it to Britain. With a 450bhp 6.2-litre V8, the Corvette is both 50bhp more powerful and nearly £20,000 cheaper than a Porsche 911 Carrera S. Granted, we're not expecting quite the level of dynamic polish from the Corvette as you get from the 911; but you'd have to agree that in terms of bang-for-your-buck, the American car is a tempting proposition.
