Caterham has added a new model to its Seven range: the Seven Supersport R.
Designed to fit into the model range directly above the standard Supersport, the Supersport R is fitted with a 2.0-litre Ford Duractec engine in place of the Supersport's 1.6-litre Ford Sigma motor. The engine sends its power to the rear wheels via a five-speed manual gearbox and a limited-slip differential.
Thanks to the new engine, the Supersport R produces 25% more power than the standard Supersport, developing 180bhp. And weighing just 535kg, the Supersport R will hit 62mph in 4.8 seconds and reach a top speed of 130mph.
Despite the extra power, the Supersport R retains the same suspension set-up as the standard car; however, buyers can opt to fit a range of optional equipment including a roll bar, a carbon dashboard, ventilated brake discs, a six-speed gearbox, race four-point harnesses, a track day silencer and an Avon ZZR wheel and tyre package.
On the inside, the Supersport R gets a new bespoke steering wheel, integrated change-up light, composite race seats and an aero screen.
Prices for the Supersport R start from £27,995, and if you fancy building the car yourself, Caterham will supply the car in kit form for £24,995.
