Bugatti has revealed the first of six new 'Legend' special editions of its 1000bhp hypercar which will be launched over the next twelve months.

The Veyron 'Legend' editions will be inspired by racing drivers from the company's past, with each model commemorating an individual who has helped shape the history of the Bugatti brand. The first of these models, the Bugatti Legend "Jean-Pierre Wimille" will make its debut at the Pebble beach Concours d'Elegance in August.

Named after Jean-Pierre Wimille, a Bugatti factory driver who took two victories for the company at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1937 and 1939, the car takes its inspiration from the 1937 winning car, the 57G Tank.

The most noticeable visual similarity between the 57G and the new car is the 'Wilmille Bleu' paint finish which honours the traditional French racing colours. The car's interior has been given the blue treatment too, with both the leather and the dashboard finished in the distinctive hue.

Just three examples of the Wilmille special edition will be made, all of which will be based on the open-top Veyron Vitesse, sharing the car's 8.0-litre W16 engine, 1183bhp power output and 2.6 second 0-62mph time.
