BMW have announced a special edition 500bhp version of the M4 to celebrate winning the DTM German touring car driver’s crown.
BMW racer Marco Wittmann secured the title in the season finale at the Hockenheimring, prompting the manufacturer to design and build the BMW M4 DTM Championship Edition 2016. Applying motor racing technology to the drivetrain and suspension, the six-cylinder powered model goes from 0-62mph in just 3.8 seconds. As a result of improvements the engine, previously seen in the M4 GTS, is 16% more powerful.
BMW claim the two-seater is the most closely motor racing inspired special edition they have ever produced, with weight-saving features including carbon-fibre reinforced plastic bonnet, roof, instrument panel support, and rear diffuser, and titanium exhaust end silencer and tailpipes. Light alloys with high-performance racing tyres, carbon-ceramic brakes, and adjustable three-way suspension maximise the car’s handling.
Available exclusively in Alpine White, the additional body styling is designed to give the look of the DTM racing machines. The front splitter, front wheel arches aero flicks, exterior mirror caps, side skirt attachments, rear diffuser, rear wing are carbon finished, while inside the M Carbon bucket seats are trimmed in Alcantara/Leather Merino.
A white rollover bar takes the place of the rear seats found in conventional M4s, but far from being Spartan the special edition includes BMW Professional Navigation system, air conditioning, adaptive LED headlights with BMW Selective Beam, OLED taillights, front and rear Park Distance Control, and automatically dimming interior and exterior mirrors.
