Maserati has revealed the first official pictures of the new Quattroporte ahead of the model's debut at the 2013 Detroit Motor Show in January.
Details on the new Quattroporte are scarce, but we can tell you that the new car will be both longer and lighter than the model it replaces and will feature a tweaked version of the current car's Ferrari-built 4.7-litre V8. And if the registration plate on the car in the photos is to be believed, the new Quattroporte will develop 530hp -- around 100bhp more than the current model.
The new Quattroporte shares many visual similarities with its predecessor -- the grille, side vents and triangular C-pillars of the old car are all present -- however, the new model is altogether more aggressive and muscular looking.
Maserati is also expected to expand the Quattroporte range significantly. In addition to the new V8 model, a range of smaller V6s and a diesel model are believed to join the line-up in due course, and a four-wheel drive model is rumoured to be launched around a year after the new car is introduced.
Maserati has big ambitions for its future and will be hoping that the new Quattroporte is a sales success. Currently, around 6,000 cars roll off the Italian firm's production lines every year; however, the company aims to sell 50,000 cars worldwide by 2015.
The new Maserati Quattroporte goes on sale next year, with prices expected to range from £80,000 for a basic model, rising to £120,000 for the top-of-the-range versions.
