Volvo S80 Overview

The car is still as practical as it ever was, whilst also representing the company’s new commitment to quality and refinement.

Background

The Volvo S80 was originally introduced in 1998 and was made as Volvo’s flagship model. This is no surprise considering the emphasis this car has on luxury and quality. Its interior is seen as one of the most comfortable in the automotive industry and it boasts an effective, clear dashboard layout.

Across both generations the S80 has performed exceptionally well in any safety tests it has undergone. Most notably the first generation of S80 achieved very impressive crash test ratings, some of the highest the world had ever seen in fact, which were almost unrivalled for five years. As there will be nothing but upgrades made to the car, it should always remain a vehicle which is known for safety, demonstrated with the second generation’s innovative safety features.

The S80 has a wide range of engines to choose from including a 4.4L V8 option demonstrating an attempt on Volvo’s part to improve its reputation for performance when it comes to more aggressive driving.

The Volvo S80 isn’t too expensive when compared to rivals of the same class. Although the asking price is a bit hefty, insurance rates and servicing charges are low, and fuel economy should be good.

Summary

Whilst it is a very safe good looking car, it will still struggle to come up trumps against its competitors. Its ride is not as smooth as its rivals, which somewhat spoils its comfortable interior, it is nevertheless a reasonably priced alternative to other cars in that market.
