Morgan Aero Car Reviews

A car you buy with your heart, not your head. Objectively, the Aero can't hope to compete with its more modern rivals but this is beside the point. It looks great and it's amazingly fast but it is very expensive indeed.

Morgan Aero Overview

The Aero is incredibly lightweight thanks to aluminium construction and this means that the BMW-derived 367bhp 4.8-litre V8 rockets the car from 0-62mph in 4.5 seconds. The Aero is also great to drive thanks to a well-sorted chassis, although the steering feels a little vague and woolly. It's not a comfortable car to drive, however, thanks to the firm ride and omnipresent wind, road and engine noise.

Inside, the Aero 8 is a hotchpotch of recycled Ford switchgear and leather upholstery. It feels nice and suits the car well although we can't help feeling that at this price, Morgan could have made the cabin feel a little more special.

You do get a surprisingly spacious boot, although it's both tricky to fold yourself into the cabin and cramped once you get inside.

The Aero is also ludicrously expensive, with prices starting from fifty quid under 100 grand.

Background

The original Aero 8 was unveiled in 2001 and was the first all-new Morgan since 1948. At launch, it was criticised for its 'cross-eyed' look which was created by its VW Beetle front headlamps. Morgan updated the Aero's styling in 2007, switching from Beetle to MINI headlights and improving the look of the car's front end.

Summary

You'd have to be absolutely insane to buy an Aero. It's cripplingly expensive and prehistoric in comparison to its mainstream rivals. However, if you love the Aero's retro styling and want a fun car which goes like a bat out of hell, nothing we say here should put you off buying one.
