The Cruze is a medium sized family car. It is available in two body styles, a 4-door saloon or a 5-door hatchback. There are three engine choices for the hatchback, a choice of two petrol engines, 1.6 and 1.8 litres, and one 2.0 litre diesel. The saloon, however, is only available with the 2.0 litre diesel. These all offer reasonable efficiency, although the diesel is obviously the pick of the bunch. The petrol engines also lack a little power that would be expected and as a result, they need to be revved relatively hard to maintain speed, resulting in quite loud engine noise at higher speeds. Wind noise is kept out well however.

Chevrolet Cruze Overview
Aside from some noticeable engine noise, the cabin of the Cruze is a pleasant place to be. There is plenty of space in both the front and the back, although the sloping roofline of the saloon can slightly limit rear headroom. The boot is of a decent size, and the split-folding rear seats can provide more space if required. There is also an abundance of stowage options inside the cabin, with door bins, a dash top and glove box, central cubby and cup holders, making this a very practical car to live with.
The seat and steering wheel offer a lot of adjustment making it easy to get comfortable, whilst the seats offer enough support to maintain a decent level of comfort on any journey. The interior is an improvement on the Lacetti which it replaced, and takes a number of design cues from the Vauxhall Astra, with stylish chrome effect surrounds on dials and buttons.
Background
The Chevrolet Cruze originally referred to a crossover SUV that was derived from the Suzuki Ignis, although in the UK the name Ignis remained. Since 2008 however the Cruze nameplate had been given to the, unrelated, medium sized family car that replaced the Lacetti.
It was produced on the GM Delta II Platform, along with the Chevrolet Volt and Orlando. At the Paris Motor Show in 2010 the 5-door hatchback model was unveiled, which went on sale the following year.
Summary
The Cruze is a roomy family car that provides excellent value for money. It also is one of the safest models on the market, receiving the 5 star Euro NCAP safety rating in 2009.
