MG was once one of Britain's top sports car manufacturers, however it became a casualty of the problems which plagued British Leyland in the 1970s. Now under Chinese ownership, the brand is making a comeback and is becoming know for its cheap electric cars.

The history of MG starts in 1924 when it was founded by Cecil Kimber, a dealer who worked for Morris Motors - MG is an acronym for Morris Garages. The company was sold to the aforementioned Morris Motors in 1925 and was absorbed into the British Motor Corporation in 1952, following the merger between Austin and Morris. In 1968, MG became part of British Leyland and was nationalised in 1975. The last 'true' MGs rolled off the production line in 1980, but since then both the Austin Rover Group and MG Rover have used the MG name on badge-engineered versions of Rover and Austin models. The company was bought by the Nanjing Automobile Group in 2005, after MG Rover went into receivership.
