The original Volkswagen Golf was put into production in 1974 and was known as the Volkswagen Golf Mk1 it has since received a bunch of updates which have kept the model competitive throughout.
The Mk1 had been produced for 9 years before the Mk2 version hit production in 1983. The Mk3 was produced from 1991 to 1999 with the Mk4 being produced from 1997 to 2004. The Mk5 was produced between 2003 and 2009 before being replaced by the Mk6 in 2009. The current Mk7 Golf went on sale in late 2012.
