If you are looking for a high-performance cabriolet that won’t break the bank to run this is the car for you. Higher outlay costs are dismissed by the superb fuel consumption figures and this car will best suit someone with cabriolet experience who wants to trade up to something better.

All Megane coupes come with a TomTom satellite navigation system, Bluetooth and MP3 player connectivity and alloy wheels so the deciding point will be on performance figures and budgets. Buyers with a little less budget would be best advised to look further down the range.

PROS:  The Renault Megane Coupe-Cabriolet Dynamique TomTom dCi 110 EDC Auto’s most defining feature is its frugality. The car returns an impressive 56.5mpg making it one of the most economical convertibles out there.

CONS:  Its price and insurance rating. The Renault Megane Coupe-Cabriolet Dynamique TomTom dCi 110 EDC Auto costs £23,495 making it the most expensive of the three choices available. An insurance grouping of 22 will also act as a deterrent especially to younger drivers.

Behind the Wheel

The 1461cc engine delivers a healthy 110bhp horsepower at 4,000rpm and produces 177 lb of torque at 1750 rpm. A top speed of 118 mph is satisfactory but a 0-62mph figure of 13.2 seconds is a little sluggish and is not helped by the eight valve engine and automatic transmission.

There have been reports of restrictive viewing through the two from windscreen pillars which will not add to the driving experience.

The ride quality is best described as solid but not overwhelming, with decent refinement on the whole.

Looks & Equipment

All of the open top Meganes in the range are head turners , especially when the roof is down. One nice feature is the solid glass roof so even in cold or damp weather you can still get the feeling of open-top driving despite the roof being in place. Standard alloy wheels add to the good looks.

The entire range is well appointed and the Megane Coupe Cabriolet Dynamique TomTom 1.6 110 is no exception. As the name suggests TomTom satellite navigation is standard along with Bluetooth and MP3 player connectivity. Power steering, central locking, and stability control are all fitted across the range.

An air conditioning unit is fitted as standard with climate control available for £410.

Practicality, Safety & Reliability

All three variants in the range offer 211 litres of boot space which is not all that good if four adults are on board and you need space for all their luggage. However if you are using this car primarily as a two-seater the boot space will be more than sufficient for weekend baggage.

Again all three models come with driver, passenger and side impact airbags and stability control is fitted as standard. Security features include and alarm and immobiliser.

The car comes with Renault’s standard three-year or 100,000-mile warranty and the back-up of its 260-strong dealer network.

Value for Money

This car is expensive to buy compared to its two sisters but initial outlay costs are counteracted by the highly impressive fuel economy, averaging 56.5mpg.

It is the dearest car in the entire Megane Coupe Cabriolet range, some three grand dearer than the entry level Dynamique TomTom 1.6 110 version even though both cars offer the exact same level of standard equipment.

The deciding value for money factor is if you are a high-mileage motorist or not. The former could justify the expense but short range motorists are better off sticking to the entry level machine.
