Renault Megane Overview
The current Renault Megane offers a selection of engines from a 1.4 litre to a 2.0 litre and is capable of 37.0 to 71.0 mpg. It is available in hatchback, estate, shooting brake/coupe and convertible form.
The Megane boasts impressive refinement and a good carrying capacity. The car also boasts a powerful range of diesel engines. The car has improved fuel economy and offers strong performance without sacrificing economy. The Megane would make a decent first car. It’s easy to drive and includes plenty of safety features. The Megane should enjoy low running costs.
Background
The Megane was first produced in 1995 and replaced the Renault 19. It shared many features with its predecessor yet they were all very much modified. The car was built with safety in mind and was styled to embrace a corporate theme that Renault was embarking upon at the time. It received a facelift in 1999 before it was replaced in 2002 by the second generation model.
The second generation Megane was released in 2002 and was completely restyled and barley even recognisable to the first generation model. It was obviously a change for the better as the second generation model was voted the European Car of the Year for 2003. It was also the first car of its kind to achieve a 5 star safety rating in the EuroNCAP crash tests. The Megane II received a facelift in 2006 which saw the arrival of a new front nose, before the whole car was replaced in 2008.
The third generation model Megane arrived in 2008 and has again took a leap with regards to styling, the third generation model should also reflect a conscious effort on Renaults part to have created a more reliable car after past criticisms in the reliability area.
Summary
The Renault Megane would make a very good family car. It boasts high levels of refinement, practicality and spaciousness, and would easily accommodate a small family. The spacious boot will certainly come in handy.
