With a powerful engine which strikes a pleasing balance between affordability and performance the Range Rover Evoque Coupé SD4 is not just about good looks - but that is certainly the main selling point for this car which has a lot of visual appeal.

Whilst clearly being a crossover aimed primarily at the city driving market, the Evoque still feels like it has a lot of the ruggedness you would get from an off-roader.

PROS:  The main selling point for this car is definitely the looks, with the powerful rugged look of the front end familiar to Land Rover fans, together with a tapering roof which helps to create a sleek, sexy feel for this coupé model. Already a favourite with yummy mummies this is the most modern, distinctive looking car that Range Rover have produced.

CONS:  Being a coupé this car is not as practical as the larger 5 door models, and the Evoque range in general is not kind to the environment, even compared to other 4x4s. It also suffers from poor visibility through the side windows.

Behind the Wheel

The sporty appearance of the Evoque coupé is matched by pretty sporty performance as well. The 16 valve, 2179cc diesel engine has plenty of power, hitting 190bhp at 3500rpm and producing torque of 309lb-ft at 1750rpm.

Boasting a top speed of 121mph and managing acceleration from 0-62mph in a time of 8.5 seconds the Evoque coupé SD4 also handles well and has good suspension for a smooth ride. It comes with a 6-speed automatic transmission.

Looks & Equipment

The visual design of the Range Rover Land Rover Evoque coupé SD4 has been perfectly judged for the target audience, and is sure to prove very popular indeed. The interior is solid and well designed too, if lacking in the luxury refinements which give many of its competitors a more premium feel.

You do get a good amount of on-board equipment and electronic gadgets included as standard with this car. The sound system produces good quality sound and includes CD, MP3 and Bluetooth connectivity. You also get a SatNav, alarm and immobiliser, rear parking sensors, advanced climate control, cruise control DSC stability control, central locking and a full suite of airbags.

Whilst alloy wheels are included as standard, you will have to add an extra £550 to the price if you would like metallic paint.

Practicality, Safety & Reliability

Although the practicality of the Evoque does suffer from its conversion into a coupé model, it doesn't suffer to much. You still get up to 1350-litres of boot space with the seats down, or 550-litres with the seats up, and although 43.5mpg fuel efficiency and 169g/km of CO2 emissions are not great, they do not fall too far behind key competitors.

With an overal NCAP safety rating of 5 you are just as safe when driving this car as it manages to make you feel.

And in addition to the three year, unlimited mile warranty, Range Rover also offer a 6 year anti-corrosion warranty.

Value for Money

The £39,990 list price for a new Range Rover Land Rover Evoque coupé SD4 is very reasonable, coming in on the low side when compared to its main rivals. And it is quite affordable to keep for a 4x4 too, so buyers can be confident that they are getting good value for money.
