The 325i coupe is a great car to drive, with lots of speed and power and good handling. It also has a very economical engine and low running costs alongside low CO2 emissions but the Sport Plus trim is quite expensive and as the SE trim comes with most of the equipment, it is a bit of an unnecessary expense. The sport suspension is quite uncomfortable too, although there is the option to switch it for the regular type if required.

PROS:  The 325i's engine is powerful and fairly economical for a petrol engine. The Sport Plus trim comes with loads of equipment including satellite navigation and Bluetooth as standard making it comfortable and luxurious.

CONS:  The Sport Plus is not worth the extra cost over the SE model, which nearly matches up to the Sport's equipment and avoids the uncomfortable sport suspension.

Behind the Wheel

The handling in the 3 Series coupe is fantastic, offering controlled and stable driveability thanks to the balanced rear-wheel-drive chassis, which makes easy work of winding B-roads. The 325i engine is powerful but smooth and quiet as well and this means it offers both good performance and refinement. The cabin is well insulated from outside sounds and this combines with the quiet engine to offer a comfortable cabin.

The 325i Sport Plus has a 218 bhp engine delivering 199 lb-ft of torque at 2400-4200 rpm and reaches 0-62 mph in 6.7 seconds with a limited top speed of 155 mph.

Looks & Equipment

The 3 Series Coupe is a great looking car that comes with a decent amount of standard kit. The Sport Plus coupe comes with leather seats, power steering, stability control, cruise control, climate control, 19 inch alloy wheels, MP3 connectivity, Bluetooth, satellite navigation and rear parking sensors as standard.

The ‘Efficient Dynamics’ technology that keeps the fuel consumption and CO2 emissions low includes an automatic stop-start system, brake energy regeneration, on-demand control of engine ancillary components and tyres with less rolling resistance, along with improved aerodynamics.

Practicality, Safety & Reliability

The 3 Series Coupe feels very well put together and BMW have an enviable reputation when it comes to reliability.

Standard safety equipment includes six airbags, Dynamic Stability Control inclusive of ABS, corning brake control, dynamic brake control and dynamic traction control. An optional extra is the Active Security Package (with lane change and lane departure-warning systems), with an alarm as standard. It was awarded the top five star rating in the Euro NCAP crash tests too.

The coupe has loads of room in the front and back, with plenty of leg room. The boot is of a reasonable size too, if a bit awkwardly shaped, with 440 litres of space and the option to fold down the split-folding rear seats to extend the space available.

Value for Money

The 3 Series benefits from BMW’s Efficient Dynamics technology, which gives the engines excellent fuel economy and low CO2 emissions, also making it an attractive business car option. The 325i Sport Plus model costs £35,260 and has a combined fuel economy of 39.2 mpg and CO2 emissions of 168 g/km, putting the car in VED band H.

The 325i Sport Plus is great value for money, offering good driveability and strong performance alongside an economical engine and low running costs. The Sport Plus trim is probably not worth the price hike from the SE model though as there are limited differences in terms of equipment.
