The Aston Martin Vantage V8N420 Roadster is expensive but this car can deliver. It boasts of an unbelievable driving dynamics and a stylishly sporty body that only Aston Martin designers can deliver. The Roadster is a combination of a genuine sports car and that of a luxurious and comfortable convertible.

PROS:  The Aston Martin Vantage V8 is an excellently designed and styled roadster. It exudes a sophisticated image that is aptly matched with a powerful engine that effortlessly shifts gears. A Vantage has a stunning road presence. The ride is supple and smooth.

CONS:  The low-slung design of the Vantage presents some visibility problems. Safety is an issue as there are no curtain airbags. Astons are hand-built and if you can afford to buy one, there is a long waiting list. A Vantage V8 is high-maintenance.

Behind the Wheel

The 6-speed Sportshift Vantage reaches 62mph in 4.8s flat. Its 4735cc V8, 32-valve engine revs up at 420 bhp at 7000 rpm and has a powerful torque of 346 lb-ft at 5750 rpm. Its combined mpg is 21.4 which is expected from a roadster.

An Aston Martin is not a Porsche. It is a class of its own. It is one of the most beautiful sports cars (and not a cruiser) ever designed and manufactured. The Vantage V8 handles well. The car grips well and can quickly cover corners. The ride is comfortable and smooth. The steering is weighted and accurate. The noise that a Vantage engine makes is one of its appeal. The powerful engine is quiet while cruising but once you step on the pedal the, the engine roars. Front visibility is a problem at some angles.

Looks & Equipment

The V8 Vantage is the best-looking 2-seater in the Aston Martin’s line of cars. This is the car to go for if you prefer attention when on the road. Speed is synonymous with the V8 which is further heightened with the riotous noise of the exhaust. The steering wheel fits comfortably as it moves two ways. The seats are powered and tend to tightly grip you.

Standard in this model are 18-inch alloy wheels, climate control, leather upholstery, reversing sensors, powered seats, tire monitoring system, electric roof, 6-CD changer audio system. Options such as sat nav, xenon headlamps, heated front windscreen and a hands-free phone kit are available. However, the dashboard would look busy and the additional switches might cause a bit of confusion at first.

Practicality, Safety & Reliability

The cabin is stunning what with its neat dashboard with its cluster of switches and instruments. The 2-seater sports car is spacious as it can be. The boot has a considerably large capacity of 144 litres. There is a long wait list for an Aston Martin which translates to a limited production of Vantages. This is the reason why Euro NCAP has not tested a Vantage. Not to worry though as the car is fitted with safely features such as ABS linked to a very powerful break, electronic brake distribution which actually enhance the force of the brakes which will stop the car at the soonest time possible. Traction Control and dynamic stability are fitted to give the driver full-control of the car. In case of a collision, the airbags located at all sides of the car are helpful.

Reliability has improved after ironing out early issues pertaining to the use of Ford switchgear. All such parts have been replaced but still, the build-up quality of an Aston Martin isn’t at par with a Porsche 911. Warranty is 3 years based on unlimited mileage. CO2 emissions are 312g/km.

Value for Money

A V8 Vantage is expensive at £107,995 but the tag price is the least concern of Aston Martin owners. The stylish and great looking car is very exclusive as an Aston Martin is not mass-produced.

With an mpg of 21.4 this car is not for short trips around town. Aston Martin produces only 5,000 cars per year and this fact definitely adds to its value. Depreciation of an Aston Martin is minimal which translates to optimal resale value. Critics recommend the Aston Martin 4.7 V8 Coupe Sportshift.
