Vauxhall is a British automotive brand which was founded in 1857. It is now owned by Stellantis - the corporation formed by the merger of PSA Peugeot Citroen and the Fiat Group. The history of Vauxhall Motors starts in 1857 when it was founded by Alexander Wilson. The company began as a pump and marine engine manufacturer in London. By 1903 Vauxhall began manufacturing cars, its first being a five-horsepower model with no reverse gear.

Credited with building the very first true sports car, the Prince Henry C-type in 1911, it was bought by American giant General Motors in 1925. This became the first GM plant in all of Europe and during World War II, Vauxhall, with GM backing, pulled off the amazing feat of designing and building tanks for the British war effort. The project was initially projected to take four years and the company finished in only a year. After the war it resumed auto production focusing on cars that could be massed produced for the general public and in turn the company grew.

Vauxhall’s main headquarters are now situated in Luton. It also has major manufacturing facilities in Ellesmere Port where its main production consists of cars like the Vauxhall Astra
