Background
The Smart Fortwo was originally introduced in 1998 with the first generation model running for 9 years until 2007. It received a facelift in 2002 and was available in a number of different forms including the base model ‘Pure’, the sportier ‘Pulse’ coupe and the luxury Passion Cabriolet.
The second generation model was introduced in 2006 and features very similar styling to the first generation model despite its increase in length. It also has a better crash performance than the previous models.
There is also a Hybrid model, a Smart electric drive model and a Brabus (sporty) model available in certain markets.
A third generation model is expected to see the production lines in 2012.
