The Getz is one of Hyundai's most popular models and it's easy to see why. Cheap to run, spacious inside and a five-year warranty as standard make it a good choice if you're looking for an affordable and easy to drive car. There's good passenger space, particularly in the back where it is impressively roomy for such a small car. The 1.4-litre uses variable valve timing to deliver 67bhp and manages 0-62mph in a sprightly 11.2 seconds while returning 47mpg.
The Getz is agile and easy to drive making it ideal for pottering town and parking is easy, as the power steering and neat ten-metre turning circle make light work of low-speed manoeuvres.
The roomy cabin and soft ride make long journeys relative comfortable and the engine rarely sounds strained. There's plenty of room inside and rear passenger space is impressive for such a small car with plenty of leg and headroom. The large glass area and high roofline mean it feels light and airy too.
The Getz officially carries five, but it can be a squeeze with three adults in the back as it isn't particularly wide. For kids it's fine though and there's a pocket on the back of the front seats to store magazines and maps, keeping the cabin tidy. All rear passengers get three-point seatbelts and there’s a trio of cupholders, with one located between the front seats for rear use, and two in the front (one of which holds a removable ashtray). The boot is a good size for a little car, holding up to 288 litres – which is big enough to swallow the weekly shopping. For increased luggage capacity, the rear seats split, fold and tumble forwards.
The Getz is reasonably well equipped for the price. CDX models come with 14-inch alloy wheels, power steering, air conditioning, 60/40 split folding rear seats, ABS, electric front and rear windows, front airbags, CD stereo, central locking, height adjustable steering column, body coloured door mirrors and handles, electrically adjustable door mirrors, remote central locking and alarm, driver’s seat height adjustment, a trip computer, front fog lights and all CDX models except the 1.1-litre also get side airbags and an electric sunroof.
The Getz was awarded four stars out of five by Euro NCAP, which is good for a small car launched in 2002. All cars are fitted with ABS with electronic brake distribution and twin airbags as standard.
