Once you’ve secured your Carsite car we’ll immediately provide you with your FREE HPI check for your peace of mind. An HPI report examines a vehicle's status under all legal registers and will provide you with the complete history of your vehicle.
A car dealer will charge you for an HPI check. However, ALL Carsite vehicles come with an HPI car check free of charge, as well as an independent RAC inspection report in each car listing, so you can buy cars with confidence and without expense.
Why have an HPI car history check?
According to HPI data, 1 in 3 used UK cars have something to hide. The free HPI check ensures that Carsite only lists cars that have not been previously declared as:
- Stolen
- Written off
- Having Finance Outstanding
Using over 60 million identities recorded at the DVLA and DVLNI an HPI vehicle check also confirms:
- The identity of the vehicle
- How many individual owners it has had
- The plausibility of its mileage
- The true age of your vehicle, in terms of the year it was built and the date it was first registered at DVLA
Why it’s so important
If you buy cars which have not had a thorough history check, you could get a very unwanted surprise. Statistics indicate that:
- Overall, 1 in every 3 used cars has a tainted history.
- 1 in every 300 UK used cars have been stolen at some point. Every day HPI checks identify almost 30 stolen vehicles.
- 4 in every 100 vehicles have previously been written-off due to theft or damage.
- 5 in every 100 have had their mileometers tampered with. HPI uses around 85 million records from the National Mileage Register to protect you against “clocking”.
- 15 out of every 100 secondhand cars have had a number plate change at least once. A plate change may hide a car's past.
- 24 out of every 100 vehicles checked by HPI still have car finance outstanding.

Other Benefits
As well as confirming whether a vehicle has outstanding car finance, is recorded as stolen, or has previously been written-off, HPI's used car check also confirms many other details, including the make, model, colour, door plan, and engine size. Our data checks that these match the descriptions recorded against the vehicle at the time of manufacture, protecting the interests of the motorist and helping dealers meet their legal obligations. We also have access to the National Mileage Register, the UK's largest database of mileages, to alert car buyers and dealers to potential mileage discrepancies.
