Vauxhall have continued the roll out of their new 1.6-litre ‘Whisper Diesel’ by introducing the engine to the Insignia range.

The mid-size turbo power plant joins the Insignia range to replace the current 2.0-litre units. Prices for the new ‘Whisper Diesel’ 1.6 CDTi ecoFLEX models start from £19,534. Design, SE, Tech Line, and SRi models can be specified with 17-alloys and ultra-low rolling resistance tyres, which help the Insignia’s CO2 emissions fall below the magic 100g/km mark. Fuel consumption of up to 74.3mpg combined is claimed, but the ‘Whisper Diesel’ powered Insignia is still good for 130mph and 0-60mph in 10.9 seconds.

New engines are not the only addition to the Vauxhall Insignia range, with the innovative OnStar system also now available. Vauxhall’s OnStar system provides a Wi-Fi hotspot for up to seven devices, emergency response notification in the event of airbag deployment, and stolen vehicle recovery technology. Connecting drivers directly with a call centre advisor, it provides owners with a round-the-clock personal assistant. For example, with Destination Download, you can call your OnStar advisor in-car and they’ll identify your desired destination before sending the address to the Insignia’s navigation system.  OnStar comes as standard on Elite, Limited Edition and VXR models, and on the rest of the Insignia range as a £395 optional extra.

The Insignia now also boasts the second generation Navi 900 IntelliLink system with Apple CarPlay iPhone connectivity, giving quick access to entertainment apps for music and news  via the eight-inch colour touchscreen. The system also enables audio streaming, having incoming text messages read aloud and voice control as well as watching films and videos, and a voice command navigation system with maps of more than 30 European countries.
