Relief for VW drivers as they will not have to pay higher road tax if their car is found to contain 'cheat' software.

Anyone who owns a diesel Volkswagen, Audi, Seat or Skoda can now sigh a sigh of relief. Transport Secretary Patrick McLoughlin has put to bed any fears that the owners themselves will be faced with higher tax costs thanks to Volkswagens dodgy emission numbers. Patrick McLoughlin had this to say:

"The government expects VW to support owners of these vehicles already purchased in the UK and we are playing our part by ensuring no one will end up with higher tax costs as a result of this scandal"

We assume this means that the British government may expect VW to fork out their own money to cover at least some of the revenue the HMRC has lost as a result of incorrect tax bands.
