Volkswagen have unveiled a new concept model at the Auto Shanghai 2015 show, which it says offers an outlook on the future design of sporty saloons from the brand.

The Volkswagen C Coupe GTE is a plug-in hybrid-powered, four-door concept model for the Chinese market, whose long, elegant silhouette boasts low-profile side windows and horizontal character line.

The advanced hybrid drive system combines a four-cylinder, direct-injection petrol turbo engine with an electric motor integrated into the 8-speed automatic gearbox module, as well as a lithium-ion battery. The combined power output from the hybrid system comes in at over 240bhp.

It’s integrated battery can be charged both while driving or while parked, and with the hybrid system designed to allow all-electric motoring up to 81mph the C Coupe GTE is capable of zero local emissions. Combined CO2 emissions are as low at 55g/km while the overall driving range is around 500 miles. Despite this, the C Coupe GTE goes from 0-62mph in 8.6 seconds and has a top speed of 144mph.
