Workers at Vauxhall’s plant in Luton, Bedfordshire, were happy to learn that their jobs are safe after the company confirmed that they will product the next-generation Vivaro.
Vauxhall’s Luton plant, which has already been slated to produce the next generation Movano from 2013, has today learned that they will also produce the next-gen Vivaro vans, meaning that up to 1000 jobs at the factory which would otherwise have been at risk are now safe for the foreseeable future.
In September last year Vauxhall signed up to a joint venture with Renault which carried forward their previous agreement to work together on the development of light commercial vehicles. That agreement, which has been in place since 1996, saw the two companies working together on the Vauxhall Movano and Renault Master models, as well as the Vauxhall Vivaro and its sister vehicle the Renault Trafic, which have seen over 1.25 million units roll off the production lines since their introduction in 2001.
The Trafic will be produced at Renault’s Sandouville plant in France, alongside a high-roofed version of Vauxhall’s Movano.
