Toyota has added a new engine to the revised Land Cruiser line up as part of an overhaul of the range.
The new 2.8-litre D-4D replaces the current 3.0-litre diesel engine in the range. With 174bhp on hand the new engine is designed to offer improved torque delivery compared to its predecessor, but Toyota have achieved this while reducing CO2 emissions to as low as 194g/km and fuel consumption down to 39.2mpg combined.
Improvements to the Land Cruiser’s equipment include a DAB radio as standard on entry-level Active trim models, while the Toyota Touch 2 with Go navigation system and high-resolution touchscreen-controlled multimedia system is added as a £750 optional extra. Three-door models now have the option of heated front leather seats and leather door trim for £1,395, while five-door models can now be specified with electrically-adjustable front leather seats and triple-zone automatic air conditional for an additional £2,795.
Icon trim also gains DAB radio as standard, but with the Toyota Touch 2 with Go Plus that adds voice command recognition, 3D city mapping and a text-to-speech function. The top-of-the-range Invincible trim also gains these new features, plus all the features the new optional Safety Pack including Adaptive Cruise Control and Pre-Crash Safety system, Lane Change Assist, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Blind Spot Monitor, and a 360-degree Multi-Terrain Monitor. The safety pack can be added to the Active and Icon trim for £2,635. All-five door models now have the option of the £595 Protection Pack, which adds side mouldings, a rear bumper protection plate, and boot liner.
Order books for the revised Land Cruiser range open on 1 July, with prices starting from £35,895 for the three-door, five-seat Active model. The five-door, seven-seat Active model has been reintroduced to the range, with prices starting from £37,695 for the six-speed manual version. Icon models are priced from £48,395, while the range-topping Invincible starts from £54,895.
