The P1 GTR will be McLaren’s most powerful and exclusive car to date and will begin production this year.

The winter months have seen a dramatic gearing up in the research and development for this latest limited edition model with a view to showcasing the final product at the Geneva Motor Show in March. The McLaren team have been testing it across the varied and inhospitable terrains of Europe and the Middle East in order to ensure that this latest offering lives up to the GTR name.

Use of weight reduction measures alongside track-optimisation of the petrol-electric powertrain will lead to a 10% improvement on the road model in terms of power to weight ratio, achieving more than 700PS per tonne. The improvements have been inspired by the company’s expertise and experience in motor sport; Chief Test river Chris Goodwin has been putting it through thousands of miles of test runs in order to ensure the cooling and aerodynamics are as impressive as they can be.

The development program is set to continue between now and March in a bid to perfect the driving dynamics and performance and a McLaren P1 GTR Driver Program will begin to allow drivers to experience some of the world’s most iconic racing circuits behind the wheel of one of the most extreme limited-run track cars ever built.
