The latest incarnation of the ever-popular A4 has been revealed in both Saloon and Avant (Estate) forms ahead of a late 2015 release and early 2016 release respectively.

Audi's latest BMW 3-Series rival will recieve its official debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show later this year, and for the first time, they have chosen to unveil the Audi A4 Avant and Saloon model simultaneously.

We won't get the full pricing and specification details until later in the year but the starting figure for the Saloon is expected to be around the £28,000 mark, with the Avant costing at least another £1000 on top of that.

The new iteration has been described by many keen tweeters as an improvment on the previous model, with particular praise reserved for the clinically styled new front end.

Frank Rimili, an Audi exterior designer, had this to say, “Today’s car is a little soft. The new version is sharp and more masculine and that’s what we wanted. You can see it in the wider more aggressive grille.”

However, the Mercedes/tablet style MMI display screen (which can be seen on the interior photo above) has courted some controversy on social media, as many onlookers fear that it is going to look like a cheap afterthought and a step backwards in terms of dash synergy. More positively though, as is evident on the interior image, the impressive virtual cockpit - first seen on the new TT - will be available.

The UK specifications are yet to be finalised but there are reports that a new Bang & Olufsen 3D sound system, Apple CarPlay and matrix LED headlamps will be optional features.

The new Audi A4 will be 21mm longer, 12mm wider, and 120 kg lighter thanks to the new front-wheel drive MLB Evo platform. Luggage space is unchanged for the Saloon model at 480 litres, while the A4 Avant benefits from an extra 15 litres when compared to its predecessor, with a total of 505 litres. Both models will boast increased head and knee room for passengers.

Audi claim to have increased efficiency across the A4 range by 21 per cent, which is encouraging in light of reports that the power is up an impressive 25 per cent.

The German manufacturer has also made big progress with their 'piloted driving' technology, allowing for hands free driving in heavy traffic at speeds of up to 8 mph, assited driving at speeds of up to 40mph, and an advanced cruise control that will adapt speeds autonomously to maximise fuel economy.
