Peugeot have revealed strong UK sales figures for last year, which was the 200th birthday of the French manufacturer.

The release of the 3008, 5008, and RCZ, helped Peugeot increase its UK sales by 6.6%, resulting in a increased share of the UK market.

But it was in the growing diesel market where Peugeot performed particularly strongly. The UK diesel market grew by 12.5% in 2010, but Peugeot increased its sales of diesel models in the UK by a whopping 30%.

Peugeot's fleet sector sales grew by 19%, and light commercial vehicle sales showed a 23% increase giving Peugeot a 7.2% share of the UK light commercial vehicle market.

Making the announcement, the results prompted Peugeot UK Managing Director Jon Goodman to call Peugeot "a brand on the move."

2011 will see a number of new introductions from Peugeot, with the all electric iOn on the way, and the spring introduction of the micro-hybrid diesel e-HDi Stop & Start system to a range of models. Further growth plans for Peugeot include the introduction of a plug-in diesel hybrid, which the company claim will have a 150mpg fuel economy and around 50g/km of CO2 emissions.
