Nissan has revealed its all-new third-generation Murano ahead of its debut later this week at the New York Motor Show.
The new model, which is inspired by the Resonance concept which was first unveiled at the Detroit Motor Show, will go on sale in the US later this year. It's also rumoured that Nissan is considering selling the new model in the UK, having withdrawn the previous Murano from forecourts in 2011.
The new Murano is slightly longer, wider and lower than the car its replaces, and features design traits inherited from existing Nissan vehicles, such as the 'boomerang' lights and the prominent chrome grille.
Nissan is also making big noises about the Murano's "social lounge" interior, which is said to "create an inviting and comfortable atmosphere." The number of audio and navigation switches has been cut by 60 per cent and the instrument panel is lower than in previous Muranos. There is also an eight-inch colour touchscreen with multi-touch control. Another interior highlight is the car's NASA-inspired Zero Gravity seats, which are designed to alleviate fatigue for drivers and passengers.
From launch, the Murano will be offered with a 3.5-litre V6 petrol engine as standard, producing 260bhp. The engine will be mated to a CVT automatic gearbox, and although no economy figures have yet be released, Nissan is promising economy savings of up to 20 per cent, thanks to weight saving and a more efficient aerodynamic design.
Official pricing for the new Nissan Murano will be released closer to the car's launch.
