Refreshing the Ford Mondeo inside and out for 2011 paid dividends yesterday at the What Car? Awards, as the model scooped two trophies.
As well as the award for best family car, the Ford Mondeo 2.0 TDCi 138bhp Zetec also netted the best estate award. The victories were a repeat of the car’s double success at the same awards two years ago.
The latest model received a revised bonnet profile, full chrome window surround and LED lights – both externally and inside the cabin. In addition to the higher quality of materials used inside the car, the Mondeo boasts even better technological innovations including a 265-watt sound system, multi-media DVD system and speed limiter.
"The latest Mondeo is simply a brilliant car - and now even better value. It does everything brilliantly and nothing badly - whether you choose the hatch or estate you'll be getting a spacious, high quality, affordable car that's more fun to drive than you'd expect a family car to be" said Steve Fowler, What Car? editor-in-chief.
The 2011 Mondeo is available with 1.6 litre diesel and petrol engines. Most impressive is the 1.6 litre TDCi diesel, returning over 65mpg and emitting only 114g CO2/km, fitted with start-stop technology as standard.
Ford Britain’s managing director, Nigel Sharp, had this to say: "Ford's newest Mondeo has an exterior look and standard of interior well suited to the executive car park. For 2011 we've added powertrains ideal for the low carbon needs of our customers."
The new Mondeo range is priced from £17,695.
