Sales of the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV are on course to pass the 10,000 sales mark this month, a milestone which the Japanese manufacturer claims makes the model the UK’s most popular plug-in vehicle.

Mitsubishi launched the Outlander PHEV last year, with the plug-in hybrid model boasting an all-electric range of up to 32.5 miles and an official fuel economy figure of 148mpg combined, while emitting just 44g/km of CO2.

The popularity of the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV can attributed in part to the manufacturers decision to market the model at the same price as the equivalent diesel-powered variant.

Mitsubishi Motors UK Managing Director, Lance Bradley said: “This is certainly a satisfying achievement for us but more significantly it is an indication that this newly developing market is beginning to decide which electric vehicle technology delivers the right balance of low emission driving, value for money, economy and practicality.”

The success of the Outlander PHEV has contributed to strong sales figures for the brand as a whole, with the latest figures released by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) showing Mitsubishi’s UK passenger car sales for February up by 178 per cent on the same month last year.
