British-based sports car maker Lotus have celebrated the end of the 2014/15 financial year with the revelation that sales have risen by more than half compared to the previous year.

A remarkable 55 per cent growth in sales of Lotus models has come mostly from a surge in demand for the Elise range, with the manufacturer achieving its highest annual sales total for six years as a result.

Appropriately, Lotus ended the 2014/15 financial year having sold 2,015 units, compared to 1,296 the previous year.

UK sales more than doubled, but that figure was dwarfed by increased demand in China, up by 186 per cent, France, up by 177 per cent, and Germany, up by 130 per cent, while Japan remains Lotus’ biggest export market.

Sales of the Elise grew an incredible 80 per cent, with 729 units sold, while increased sales of Exige S and Evora models also contributed to the figures. To meet the increased global demand for its products, Lotus has added a further 36 authorised dealers in the past year taking the total to 174 dealers worldwide.

Jean-Marc Gales, Group Lotus Chief Executive, said: “This positive result is something that we have not witnessed at Lotus for many years. We are meeting both time and budget deadlines. Yet, we appreciate that we still have hard work to do to maintain the progress.”

“The reason that we are making such vital headway lies in our employees’ commitment to avoid delays in project deliveries and I am immensely pleased with the cultural changes that have been effected by our staff across the whole of Lotus. Looking to the future, we are working on new Lotus cars and have a number of exciting announcements and reveals over the next 18 months.”
