Since its launch in 2004, the Kia Picanto has been available exclusively as a 5-door. All that is set to change as the Korean firm announces the introduction of a new 3-door model.
The dimensions of the 3-door Picanto are identical to its 5-door brother. Kia says that this is so owners of the 3-door can enjoy the same levels of safety and interior space offered by the 5-door. Two engines are on offer in the new car - a 1.0-litre petrol and a 1.25-litre petrol. The smaller engine will deliver 67.3mpg on the combined cycle and emit just 99g/km of CO2, qualifying for free road tax and congestion charge exemption. The larger 1.25-litre produces 84bhp and - depending on the model and whether you opt for a manual or auto 'box - delivers between 53.3mpg and 65.7mpg with CO2 emissions between 100g/km and 125g/km.
The new car is offered with a choice of four levels of trim but all cars come with a trip computer, height-adjustable driver's seat, CD player with MP3 connectivity, and power steering. Front, side and curtain airbags are also standard across the Picanto range.
The Picanto 3-door goes on sale in Britain on 1st September with prices starting from £7,795.
