The all-new Kia Stonic has been unveiled ahead of its European sales launch later this year.

The new SUV model enters the rapidly expanding B-segment sector of the European new car market, which is forecast to exceed the two million annual sales mark by the end of the decade.

Kia Motors Europe boss Michael Cole called the new Stonic, “one of the most compelling new cars in this rapidly-expanding class, backed by Kia’s unique warranty, and the brand’s reputation for reliability, quality and contemporary design.”

That design features familiar features, such as Kia’s famous ‘tiger-nose’ grille, but also boasts brand-new styling with blending sharp horizontal feature lines with softer sculpted surfaces. A ‘Targa’-style roof lends itself to a two-tone paint finish for buyers seeking personalisation options.

Power options come in the form of Kia’s lightweight 1.0-litre T-GDI turbocharged petrol engine, a brace of naturally-aspirated petrol engines in 1.25-litre or 1.4-litre form, or a 1.6-litre diesel engine. The Stonic comes as standard with Electronic Stability Control, and Vehicle Stability Management with Torque Vectoring by Braking, Straight Line Stability, and Cornering Brake Control. Advanced High Strength Steel accounts for 51 per cent of materials used in construction of the Stonic’s shell. Further safety options include Autonomous Emergency Braking with pedestrian recognition and Forward Collision Alert, Blind Spot Detection with Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Lane Departure Warning System, High Beam Assist and Driver Attention Warning.

A range of vivid interior colour packs allow for further personalisation, while infotainment technologies include Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard. Designed to maximise interior space, the Stone provides class-leading shoulder room and generous leg- and head-room, plus a 352-litre boot with a two-step boot floor.

All Kia Stonic models will come as standard with Kia’s seven-year, 100,000 mile warranty. It goes on sale across Europe during the third quarter of 2017.
