Ford’s Bridgend Engine Plant in South Wales has passed an important production milestone.

The 20-acre site celebrated 37 years of operation this month, and did so by producing its 20 millionth engine. At present 3,400 engines are made a Bridgend each day, or one every 24 seconds on its busiest line.

The facility currently produces Ford petrol engines, including the ultra-low emissions EcoBoost units which are used to power models in the, Fiesta, Focus, Kuga, Mondeo, S-MAX ranges. It has also been chosen as the home of Ford’s all-new family of technologically-advanced, fuel-efficient petrol engines due to enter production towards the end of 2018, a move which comes with an initial investment of £100 million.
