Footballers and expensive cars go hand in hand. The top players earn enough money to buy a new sports car every week, whereas most of us will never even have the chance to sit inside our dream vehicles.
Here are some of the world’s best players and their motors.
Ashley Cole - Mercedes SL63 AMG
Ashley Cole in his Mercedes SL63 AMG here, trying to dodge a brave reporter with a camera in his face. The Chelsea left back and air rifle sniper has notched up over 100 appearances for the England national team.
Mario Balotelli - Maserati GranTurismo MC Stradale
Mario Balotelli, the ever-eccentric AC Milan forward who used to ply his trade at the second biggest club in Manchester, seen here in his white Maserati GranTurismo. He was in a rush to get out; he’d just accidentally set off a couple of fireworks.
Benoit Assou Ekotto - Smart Car
Not all sportsmen, it seems, are interested in buying the fastest and most expensive cars for themselves. Benoit Assou-Ekotto, the Tottenham full back who claims that playing football is nothing more than a job, is seen here saving the pennies on fuel in a Smart car.
Carlos Tevez - Porsche Panamera
Manchester City Striker Carlos Tevez is driving a…oh no wait, being driven around in his own Porsche Panamera. The striker was sentenced in April to 250 hours of community service and a six-month driving ban for driving while disqualified and without insurance. He was also ordered to pay fines totalling £1,145 – which takes the £196k-per-week man nearly a whole hour to earn.
Cristiano Ronaldo - Lamborghini Aventador
The world’s second best footballer getting out of his black Lamborghini Aventador. It can reach 60mph from a standstill in an incredible 2.9 seconds. Ronaldo has unbelievably averaged better than a goal per game since his world record transfer to Real Madrid.
Cristiano Ronaldo - Maserati Grancabrio
Former Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo has the wind in his hair as he cruises the motorway in his convertible Maserati Grancabrio.
David James - Reliant Robin
One of English football’s longest serving goalkeepers until his recent retirement, David James holds the record for the most Premier League clean sheets. He’s still waiting for Xzibit to pimp his Reliant Robin.
David Beckham - Porsche 911
David Beckham recently announced his retirement from football, after a 22 year career which culminated with him becoming the first British player to win a league championship in four different countries. Here he is in his Porsche 911, one of many premium cars he has the keys to.
Didier Drogba - Ferrari F430
Ivory Coast international and former Chelsea man Didier Drogba pictured with his Ferrari F430. A scorer of great goals and important goals – he bagged the winning penalty in the 2012 Champions League Final.
El Hadji Diouf - Mercedes SLR McLaren
El Hadji Diouf has been at more football clubs than I’ve had hot dinners – and that’s a fair few let me tell you. The controversial former Liverpool, Bolton and Blackburn striker is seen exiting his chrome Mercedes SLR McLaren which cost a whopping £420,000.
Djibril Cisse - Plymouth Prowler
If you’re eyesight’s not too shabby, you should just about be able to make out former Liverpool frontman Djibril Cisse behind the windscreen of his Plymouth Prowler. The retro roadster can do 0 – 62mph in less than 6 seconds. The car is certainly not a typical one of a footballer, but then again neither are several of Cisse’s previous hairstyles.
Emmanuel Adebayor - Bentley Continental GTC
He parks where he wants, he parks where he wa-aa-ants, A-de-bay-orrrr, he parks where he wants. The Togo international and former Gunners striker didn’t bat an eyelid about upsetting half of North London when he joined Spurs, and he couldn’t care less about double yellow lines either. Nice Bentley.
Florent Malouda - Tesla Roadster
When you have the money to buy and run fast, fuel-hungry cars it must be hard to care about your impact on the environment. However, it seems Florent Malouda the Chelsea playmaker does take it into consideration – either that or he can’t stand paying for petrol. The Frenchman drives an all-electric Tesla Roadster.
Frank Lampard - Ferrari 458 Italia
Premier League maestro Frank Lampard recently became Chelsea Football Club’s all-time record goalscorer. He celebrated with a trip down to Coral in his Ferrari 458 Italia.
Freddie Ljungberg - Ferrari 360 Spider
Swedish icon and former Arsenal midfielder Freddie Ljungberg is a fan’s favourite wherever he goes. When he’s not modelling in his pants for the pleasure of Sweden’s gay community, he can be seen cruising in his Ferrari 360.
George Best - Mercedes 300SE
One from the archive, the late George Best was one of the greatest footballers ever to play for Manchester United – an incredible achievement in itself. No surprises that flashy cars were among the tastes of fun-loving Northern Irishman.
