The first 5-door MINI Hatch has rolled off the Oxford production line in anticipation of its UK sale launch this coming autumn.
The new 5-door Hatch is the latest addition to a growing MINI family, hot on the heels of the 3-door Hatch which was released last November. The 5-door Hatch will give 278-litres of boot space while still offering an extra 15 millimetres of headroom and a additional 61 millimetres of interior width.
Frank Bachmann, managing director of MINI Plants Oxford and Swindon, said: “This is an exciting day for us with the first ever 5-door MINI for the plant, which opens up a whole new market segment for the brand. BMW Group has invested in creating state-of-the-art technology and facilities at Oxford and Swindon for the launch of this new generation of MINI, demonstrating the company’s commitment to a long-term future for its UK production sites.”
The roll-out of the new 5-door MINI Hatch is the latest milestone in a £750 million investment programme in UK production facilities by the manufacturer. A new bodyshop has been built at the Oxford plant to facilitate production of the latest generation of MINI cars, as well as investment in the manufacturer's Swindon site.
