The fuel duty freeze will be the first thing that will prick up the ears of the majority of motorists, but there's a couple of other notable changes that will have a sizeable impact.

George Osborne has revealed that the current government believes that people buying a new car shouldn't be benefitting from the luxury of zero vehicle excise duty, the idea being that should they be able to afford a new car, they can also afford a few quid a year in road tax.

As of 2017 the new charges will be set out in 3 bands: Zero, Standard, and Premium. With 95% of New Cars falling into the Standard bracket, at a cost of £140 per year. It is worth noting that there will be no change to existing cars.

Another change, one that will be pleasing to anyone buying a new/nearly new car in the future, is that you can put off the worry about forgetting your MOT for 4 years now, rather than 3. Not bad news at all.
